Oriental Home Architecture

The Oriental Architectural Style is a term that signifies a variety of construction techniques and features native to East of Asia, which are derived from the cultural and societal patterns in the corresponding population. Although the Korean, Chinese and Japanese architecture are its basic forms, however the Chinese and Japanese styles form the dominant part of this architectural branch.

The Oriental culture is deeply embedded in its environmental roots; this notion is the main philosophy that governs all the Oriental elements. The design, in the first look, appears to be quite simple, often displaying straight lines and earth or neutral tones. On a closer look, one can appreciate the technical simplicity with which natural materials such as bamboo, wood and natural stone have been used for the construction. The Chinese oriental houses typically follow Feng Shui in their arrangements.

This is implemented right at the planning stage- while designing the shape, deciding the position and arranging the layout of the various spaces in a house. Feng Shui, in Oriental architecture, serves the same function as that of Vastu Shastra in Indian Architecture; that of promoting health, wealth and prosperity in the enclosed spaces and among its residents.

It is interesting to note that the Oriental interiors usually employ a color scheme composed of one subtle and one bright color. The scheme is brought into harmony by the inclusion of walls, furniture and accessories. The dynamics between such colors can be easy on the admirer’s eyes while adding value to the aesthetics. Often, the softer shades are depicted by the background building materials such as stone, wood or soil. Red, black, Gold, White or Brown is frequently featured as the exotic and serene element.
